Friendship scrolls

fabric friendship scroll

Although living in the digital era, having smart phones, tablets, notebooks - good, old paper is still very much alive. So, I made those scrolls for myself and my closest friends to keep common photos and memories.  I found the idea in the free ebook from the Cloth Paper Scissors site - it was a scroll to keep souvenirs from the journey. I used it for our friendship journey.

Tutorial how to make friendship scrolls

Use a piece of fabric, aproximately 33 x 11 cm. I prepainted an area for the photo as I had some isues with the transfer technique. Used photo transfer paper for the dark fabric. (Don't make the same mistake I did - read the instructions.)

After the photo tranfer was succesfully accomplished, I painted the fabric with the acrylic fabric paint and played a little bit with stencils.

This is the back side of the scroll. I also write some text - sentence about friendship.

For the scroll interior I printed calendar on the parchment paper and added a page of  handmade paper. On the calendar just marked our birthdays. I made four such pairs  and stiched them on the fabric 12 mm one after another.

Before stiching the paper, flipped the edge of the fabric and stitched it, put inside the wire. You can see it (left edge).

Finally, stitched the ribbon. The scroll is over. I printed some of  old photos and input them within the paper pairs.

Angels again, this time simple, easy to make, but beautiful origami paper angels. It is a great fun folding them and varying the paper you can make them to fit everywhere.

Angels around us

I love angels and secretly hoping there is at least one taking care about me and helping me with all my issues. I don't particularly like the common image of angels, prefer some unusual ways to create them. Anyway, who can tell us for sure how the angels look like? I made these for the kitchen, with little magnets glued on the back.

Found some  interesting ones on the net.

Simple but lovely angels from this site.

For this adorable paper angel you can find tutorial.

These are my favourite, I found them (together with the tut) on the www.adventuresofadiymom.com.

Don't throw away driftwood

Being a Mediterranean country, boats  are part of our tradition and driftwood art is becoming more popular every day. I just love it. It reminds me on the summer and seaside in these rainy November days. And above all, it is good to remember that the world around us  should be seen from different angles.
All art & craft on photos are made by Croatian artists or crafters. Enjoy!

These two boats are work of Tatjana Tekovic.

Pumpkins again

Pumpkins are 'in' again. I love them - they are so colorful, interesting, funny and tasteful in so many ways, even seed and oil are delicious. Although Halloween is not so popular in Croatia, we love to decorate pumpkins and squashes.
Internet is full of pumpkin art, here are some I found the most interesting or funny, enjoy.

Magnetic Flying Insect Door Screen

Every summer during our holidays at the seaside  we are fighting against mosquitoes - I've tried so far various sprays, tablets, ultrasound devices, screens, candles ... This year we accidentally found magnetic door screen - actually first saw short video in the mall (like TV sales). My opinion about such videos is very bad. But, as we tried everything else, decided to buy the screen. And we were thrilled. It was easy to put the screen on the door and it really functioned as declared - even our dog could walk through, no flies, no mosquitoes.
It is certainly not some paid advertisement but just the recommendation - sometimes, TV sales video could be true.

Decorate magnets

Few plain magnets, a little bit of paint and creativity and you have personalized jewels on your (magnetic) board or fridge.  Too many things to remember, I decided at first to make a chalk board, then improved the idea and made magnetic chalk board (applied magnetic chalk board paint). Of course, needed magnets. The ones I had were just blue and unattractive, so needed to embellish them.

 Tutorial how I decorate magnets

Hints:

You can paint  magnets with any paint or even nail polish, but if you would like to use napkins for decoration, it should be bright color.

I used two components resin to get depth and brilliance. Read product instructions carefully.
