Felted birds

Spring is near, birds are coming back!

Spring is near (I do hope so, although  snow is forecasted in Zagreb for this week), birds are coming back soon. After black/grey/brown season,  bring some colors in your life.  I had so much fun making these birds and new ideas hot to use them were popping in with each new bird. I made decorations,  brooch, garnish for my purse, key charm, just with little customisation.

Read more in the tutorial: How to make felted birds

Material:
- felt - various colors; 2 or 3 mm thick;
- scissors
- glue (applicable for fabric)
- string or ribbon
- beads
- various fabric patches
- piece of cardboard for stencil
- tool for holes (on the photo below, I don't know the right name of this tool)

Step 1:  Draw bird shape on cardboard, cut it out to make a stencil.

Step 2: Put stencil  on felt, draw outline and cut it out. If you are using 2 mm felt (as I did), cut out two shapes for one bird.

Step 3: Cut out little fabric pieces to decorate wing, tail or head. Glue it first on the felt, then sew with zig-tag stich. Make two holes for string.

Step 4: Thread the string through holes. Glue together two bird felted shapes, make o hole for an eye and for 'hang on' string (if necessary).

Step 5: Thread string through beads, make a knot below each of them. Bird is finished.
If you want a brooch or garnish, hand sew the brooch back bar pin.

My cat loved them and tried to play with them, had to  move the vase.
